“Seussical” is a musical  inspired by Dr. Seuss and mixes together many Seuss stories and will be performed by Watertown Children’s Theatre this weekend.

When the audience walks into the theatre, the people will notice a set of truffula trees from the “Lorax” and they will see a big patch of pink clovers from “Horton Hears a Who.” The back of the stage has a mural that is the town of Whoville. It is painted with light green, tan, deep pink, and other colors of the rainbow.

The Junior Players act out different details that help tell the story. They act out different seasons and sing songs with the main cast.

The main cast has different characters from Dr. Seuss stories. Jojo is the first character you meet on stage. He discovers a mysterious looking hat and imagines that a cat is wearing it. You guessed, that’s when The Cat in the Hat comes to life on stage.

Other characters that you will meet are different birds: Gertrude, Maisy, and Bird Girls and Boys 1, 2 and 3. The Bird Girls and Boys come to life as dancers, singers, and they help tell the details of famous stories. You will also meet Horton and the Whos from Whoville. The Whos have an important role and sing many songs with Horton.

A powerful message is that when life has gone wrong, tell yourself how lucky you are.

How are you spending this weekend? Find some time to stop by the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown and see “Seussical:.

The show opens Friday night, June 17 at 7 p.m. You can also catch shows on Saturday at 2 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. There will be one more performance Sunday, June 19, at 2 p.m.

When you walk back out of the theatre you will feel happy, satisfied, and ready to come back to watch more musicals.
