Inside Room 161 at Watertown’s Cunniff Elementary school, Ms. Munger’s third-grade class is hosting six baby chicks.

The baby chicks are about to hatch. As of Tuesday, May 16, 2017, there were eight days left until they do so.

Ms. Munger is taking care of the eggs with incubators, as well as a miniature fridge to keep them cool. Every hour, the incubator rolls the eggs, giving each side the same amount of heat.

Before the chicks hatch, Ms. Munger marks the sides of her eggs to determine where they will come out.

Ms. Munger has raised chicks every year since her second year as a Cunniff teacher.

Ms. Munger’s class raises chicks every year because her students are learning about adaptation, and the chicks need to adapt to their new home.
